Mostly this is being caused by a broken someconductor: MSM9520
You find the MSM950 pretty easy when you take off the top case and look for the PB-2086, PB-2098 or PB-3430. This is the counter board.

A half hour later I had my digital display back!

it arrived approx. 10:15am Aust.
